Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles
Proverbs 21:23

We are all human and sometimes things happen that can make us angry. We can’t always help but feel anger, it is perfectly normal, but we can control how we react to it. Emotions are great and help us to enjoy life to its fullest, yet if left uncontrolled, they can cause us and others a great deal of heartache. We have all said things, out of a moment of anger, which we don’t necessarily mean and later regret. There is an old saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”; but they do hurt and inflict pain that sometimes lasts a lifetime. They become like a recording that repeats itself over and over through the years. Once we react to a situation, or say something out of anger, we can’t retract those words. While our anger passes quickly, what they leave behind doesn’t.

Prayer

Help me to control my emotions and to live my life with wisdom and peace towards all. Let the words of my mouth declare Your righteousness and speak praise to Your name. Forgive me for times I have hurt others with uncontrolled words and anger, Amen.
