Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:24

Self-pity is destructive and will leave us miserable, as well as those close to us. Everything that happens in life is not about us, a reflection on us, or even connected with us, but when we focus solely on ourselves, we miss the reality of what is actually taking place in the lives of others. We become self-seekers and self-pleasers instead of seeking to do good for others. We all feel from time to time we have been faithful, but rejected or passed by. Injustice has been done and no one seems to notice or care. If we will remain focused on seeking to do good to others and obeying the will of God each day, even the largest offences can slip by us unnoticed. Self pity serves only to stir up jealousy, envy, and strife and certainly hampers us from following God’s will for our day and meeting the needs of others. In giving to others, we will forget about ourselves and find the true joy in serving.

Prayer

Lord Jesus help me to keep my eyes on You and off of myself. It is You that I seek to please and from Your hand my reward will come. Give me the wisdom and the strength to continue to be obedient to Your will and seek to do good always, regardless of circumstance. Help me to discover the joy in giving and serving. Amen.
