You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him,
and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and
hold fast to Him.
Deuteronomy 13:4
We pray and ask God to use us, stating boldly that we will go anywhere
and do whatever He asks of us. Sometimes however when it comes down to
actually fulfilling our promise, we place conditions upon it. It turns
out that we will go and do whatever as long as we can remain comfortable
and among our circle of acquaintances and friends. We can come up with a
million excuses as to why we can't visit those in prison, or pray for
those in the hospital, or spend the afternoon talking with a stranger in
a nursing home. The truth is we many times like to pick and choose when
and if we obey God. Obedience is a choice we make throughout every
circumstance and event of our lives. How will we respond? Will we be
willing to go the extra mile, or suffer a bit of inconvenience, to
answer a call much greater than ourselves. Will we respond in obedience
to God and His word instead of what will place us in the best possible
light? Have we forgotten who we serve? If we choose to ignore His call,
heaven will not crumble and the work of God will not stop, we will miss
out and someone else will reap the blessings and rewards of obedience.
Prayer
I ask that you forgive me for the times I have disobeyed Your will for
the sake of convenience, and comfort. I desire to go where You are
leading. Help me to heed that still small voice and to follow after it
with all of my heart. Give me the strength and the wisdom to walk in
obedience to You today. Amen.
