Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.
Proverbs 3:27

However difficult our woes in life, we should stop and count our blessings, in the light of something far worse. You don’t have to look very far, to see someone in distress. The problem is we have quit looking. The focus on our own wants and needs, has blinded us from those we need to help. We are indeed much stronger and tougher than we appear. We have had it too easy, for too long. We have become so accustomed to having our needs met, that instead of utilizing our blessings to help others, we seek more pleasures for ourselves. Daily the store shelves are restocked with more than the necessities of life; there is a constant flow of new gadgets, and toys to make our lives more comfortable and pleasurable. After all that’s what its all about, or is it? We don’t really know persecution, and hardships like those who blazed the trail before us. How many times have we been beaten for speaking out the truth, or spat upon for praying over a meal? There are exceptions, but most of us could answer never. As a matter of fact, most of us cower if someone shoots a grim glance our way, or speaks negatively about us. Where did our passion go? Where is our motivation? Who put out the fire within? What are we waiting for?

Prayer

Lord, ignite a fire within us again. Our compassion is being snuffed out by our things. Open our eyes to the hurting, and show us how to use the blessings we have received from you to bless others. Don’t let us fall into a deep sleep, and become mesmerized by things in this world. Keep us focused, give us strength and courage to walk in the light of Your truth. In Jesus name, Amen.
