Everyone should be
quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger
does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
James 1:19-20
The term “righteous anger”, is too often misused, as an excuse to lose
control and allow our tempers to reign. Jesus became angry in the
temple, because of an offence towards God. Very seldom is our anger
demonstrated because someone has offended God. Most of our anger is
birthed when someone has offended us personally. Anger is quickly
transformed into bitterness and resentment when it is not released to
God. In making a choice to overlook offences, and praying and forgiving
the one who has offended us, we are releasing it into God’s hand. If we
react with love and goodness, it not only will reverse what has been
done, rendering it ineffective, but will also prevent us from becoming
bound in the situation. We need to deal with our anger, not excuse it.
Others cannot bring something out of us, which is not there in the first
place.
Prayer
Create in us a pure heart; remove the anger and bitterness that dwells
inside waiting for an opportunity to reveal itself in our lives. Give us
strength and wisdom to demonstrate self control. We pray for those who
have offended us, placing them in Your hands. We make a choice today to
love, and love never fails. Amen.
