Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24

Life is more than appearances. There is much more emphasis in society, on our outward appearance and how we are perceived by others. Although it is great to look nice, it certainly does not make us valuable. Our true worth lies within and God sees it all, the good, bad, and the ugly that others are not able to observe. We don't hesitate to dress in the latest fashion and strut through the Mall, a restaurant or church. We certainly are not ashamed, and even hopeful that we will be seen and admired. I wonder if we would have the same confidence, if our thoughts and hearts were exposed for all to see, as plainly as the clothes we wear. The things we do to impress other people don't impress God. While they may evaluate us by external things, God is searching in the dark and hidden areas, that are damaged and in need of repair. He is aware of our imperfections, as well as our strengths and weaknesses, and working to improve and perfect all.

Prayer

Lord You know my every thought and my words, before I even speak them. Search out the hidden places that no one sees and if there be anything unpleasing to You, remove it. It is You I desire to impress and to please with my life. You know the good and the bad of me and I pray you will continue working in the obvious and the hidden parts of my life.
