Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13

Memories are wonderful and although they do remind us of happy times past and refresh us with a sense of joy  the moment we remember them, there is a down side to memories as well. The down side is, the unpleasant memories of pain and hurt inflicted in the past. As quickly as the good memories can be sparked, so can the bad. The bad memories don’t come back alone, they bring with them the resentment, anger and bitterness to be relived once again. It becomes quite evident, in our actions towards the one who initially offended us. The best way to prevent them from causing the anguish again, is to forgive. Not just once, but to continually make a choice each time the memories are sparked. While forgiving benefits the recipient, more importantly it benefits us. The joyful memories of the past, we need to embrace and when the unpleasant ones come, forgive, forget, let go, and move on.

Prayer

We thank you for forgiving us, and ask that you give us the strength to forgive others. When we are confronted with haunting memories of the past, remind us that we must make a continual choice to forgive. Allow your peace and joy to reign in our hearts and minds. Amen.
