God Today
Devotions
September 22, 2003
I have been crucified with Christ and I no
longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I
live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be
gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!
Galatians 2:20-21
We don’t like to think we have a self-centered religion but that is
exactly what we make it when we are continually trying to perfect our
duties to God. We have to come to the understanding that all that we
do is because of the Spirit that dwells within us. We can earn a
living by working hard and increasing our capabilities, but we cannot
earn salvation. It is a gift offered to each of us, ours for the
embracing. Each step of our journey is an adventure, and there will be
times that we make mistakes and suffer setbacks. But once again it is
not based on our effort but the Spirit of the living God dwelling
within us. He is continually planting seeds within our lives, and in
their due season they will grow complete and ready to bear fruit. We
do a disservice to ourselves and others when we struggle and keep
ourselves stressed out trying to be good enough. Today, relax in your
faith, trust in Your God, and follow where He is leading you.
Prayer
Lord help us today to realize that we can relax in our faith,
completely trusting that as we follow where you are leading us, you
will continue to transform us. We thank you for the gift of salvation,
and the mercy and love you continually lavish upon us. Help us to
embrace your gift of eternal life and to trust you with our lives.
Amen.
